So just recently, we’ve had the launch of the M4, the M4 Pro, and the M4 Max in the likes of the 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pros. A lot of people out there, including myself, are saying this is probably the best jump we’ve had in MacBook Pros ever since the M1.
The Timeline of the M5 and OLED MacBook Pro Releases
So, what about the M5? When can we expect it? And will we be getting an updated MacBook Pro with an OLED screen inside? Let’s go over those details.
OLED Display Leaks and Launch Timeline
The OLED displays have been leaked since around 2022, and as we know now, iPad Pros were the first to get OLED displays. In 2024, we got the tandem OLED inside the likes of the 11 and 13-inch iPad Pro. It’s likely that the MacBook Pro will follow suit, with OLED coming to the MacBooks after the iPad.
When Will OLED MacBook Pros Arrive?
Reports from September 2024 indicate that if we’re going to get an OLED MacBook Pro, it’s unlikely to come out until 2026 or 2027. According to Mark Gurman, we will first see the M4 Ultra chip, likely in the Mac Studio in 2025, followed by updates for the Mac Pro.
M5 Chip and New Technology Possibilities
As for the M5, it could potentially debut in 2026 with a new 2nm process made by TSMC. This would result in even better battery life and faster performance. Some sources suggest that the M5 could also be used in other Apple devices, including the iPad Pro, Mac Mini, and iMac, before making its way into the MacBook Pro by the end of 2026 or early 2027.
MacBook Pro Design and Features in the Future
The design of the next MacBook Pro with M5 chips is still uncertain, but current renders show similarities to the existing M4 MacBook Pro. As of now, there are no major design changes confirmed, but we will update you as soon as new details emerge.
